Educational Reform under Civic Supervision

Initiative: The Kirovograd branch of the Ukrainian “Association for community self-organization assistance”
Location: Kropyvnytskyi, Kirovograd region
Year: 2018

A group of proactive women and mothers from the regional city of Kropyvnytskyi (formerly Kirovograd) aims to improve the functioning of primary and secondary schools. It is yet another initiative which wants to utilize the new legislation on school transparency. There is a number of issues to address – quality of teaching, school management, efficiency of expenses or extra-budgetary sources of funding that would allow for the expansion and improvement of work with children. The initiative‘s goal for the year 2018 is the establishment of parent associations in individual schools, which would allow parents and school staff to discuss various issues and to work together in solving them. To start with, the initiative wants to pilot the establishment of parent associations in the smaller city of Alexandria, where the conditions for such a project are more favourable than in the city of Kropyvnytskyi itself.
